Description

Aircraft Magneto - GE pattern SL-18LGP1-B
One exceptionally nice WWII General Electric-pattern aircraft magneto that appears to be in either civilian OHC or military overhauled as-new but never installed condition as judged by cosmoline on gear assembly and harness lead attachments and lack of wear on the internal parts.
The pictures really don't do justice illustrating how nice this mag really is. If you need a clean example for your project, this is it.
Units are often called
"turtleback"
or
"Mickey Mouse"
magneto because of their distinctive shape.
As used on the Pratt Whitney R-2800 "B" series engines.
Found on some of the early variants of the P-47 "Thunderbolt" but most commonly found on the -75 and -79 engines in the Douglas A-26 Invader.
Warehouse found and stored. No paperwork on this one. Internal; fragile parts are all intact with no cracks or indication of use (no electrical spark wear on contact points).
Interesting to note while one mounting bolt is missing, someone had hidden a rubber harness end inside the front cover. Yes, you get that, too.
A pretty heavy mag at 25-26 pounds or so as it sits, but exceptionally fragile, too. This one has not been dropped or manhandled. The asbestos cord packing between the cover and housing is still in perfect shape, and no indication of screwdriver or tool marks on the lid surface. The mag harness ends are still covered with cosmoline preservative. It's pooled and congealed on the RH harness attach ear and is visible in the photo as a brown blob. Paint condition great. Stored in a dry Arizona warehouse for decades.

Exceptional condition. Nice spare if you are running the type. We'd acquired it and several others in a large inventory of B series engines but we're not running the Dash -75 or -79 and don't have an Invader project. If you do, you need this mag. And if you need another for a set, we can help. We'd acquired this from inventory from an aerial applicator who worked A-26 Invaders.
Bottom looks a little ugly at the gear end because of the dust that collected on the cosmoline. It's still perfect condition (the gear drive) but it's clear that in the hot Arizona summer the cosmoline ran like melted wax and dust storms kicked up dust that stayed on the goop. Some of the other mags had a paper gasket still attached to the housing. This one is missing that gasket. Minor paint missing on ears.
We'll box it properly to make sure it arrives 100 percent intact. Shipping via FedEx for CONUS buyers.
