Description
Rare vintage WWII era Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress cockpit seat with seat position adjustment mechanism lever. Seat was found in rural Virginia. The previous owner said their grandfather used it on his tractor for a decade before it was stored in their barn. Seat pan is stamped 'ASSY 75-3448', and backside of back rest has some circled 'HT 135' markings (see photos). Unsure if seat position adjusting mechanism is original to the seat although it does look WWII era and retains some of its original green paint.Seat pan measures 15 3/4 deep, 17 3/4" wide. Back rest measure 27 1/4" high. Overall measurements including levered mechanism and rails are 29 1/4" high, 21 1/4" wide, and 18" deep. Total weight is approx. 9 lbs including levered rail mechanism.
Seat is in good condition overall with expected wear from age and use including several dings, rust spots, and heavy oxidation. There are 8 small screw holes (4 through the backrest, 4 through the seat pan) from now removed snap-button screws. I've tried to include multiple photos cataloging the condition as well as several reference photos of the B-17 in the national museum of the USAF. The seat position adjusting mechanism appears to function properly although the rail furthest from the lever sticks.
