Description
This camera is the No 3A Folding Pocket Kodak Model C Folding Pocket Camera with a strong aluminum body and covered with genuine seal grain leather. These cameras were made from 1903-1915. This particular camera was made in 1909. This camera takes 10 pictures on A-122 size film, and originally sold for a whopping .00 back then, in 1903. That would translate to 09.00 today. This camera features the Bausch & Lomb Rapid Rectilinear
lens and a Kodak Ball Bearing T,B, 1/25, 1/50, & 1/100 second shutter.
It features a rising front, spirit level, focusing scale, two tripod sockets, and a reversible brilliant viewfinder. The camera was easy to use because of its easy erecting shelf and bed, just like the original No. 1. This camera and the earlier No. 1-3 cameras, were popular during WW1, as they would easily fit into the jacket pocket.
This camera is in very good condition with very little patina, as shown in my many pictures. The lens pulls out and pushes back easily. The nickel finish around the lens and the lettering is brilliant. The bellows are brilliant and attractive, with absolutely no pin holes. The leather covering is very good, all over.
Mechanically, the camera is good. The shutter works at all speeds, and the red lens good. The stand is good, and the extra take-up spool is present. The nickel coating around the lens is brilliant with very little wear, as shown. The lettering around the lens is also nice, as shown. The brilliant viewfinder is very good. The carrying handle is also good. The lenses are all reasonably clean, inside and out. The folding lens and bellows pull out easily, and you're ready to shoot.
Original patents were granted in 1898, 1900, 1901, 1902 & 1909. The camera is a larger one, measuring 9 1/2" long when folded up. It was advertised as a compact camera that could be carried in a top coat pocket.
Especially for its age, this may be the one of the finest cameras you'll ever find. For being over 110 years old, this camera's condition is not expected.
