Moskva 5 - 6x9 Folding Film Camera - Made in USSR - Film Tested - Ships from USI’ve owned this Moskva-5 folding 6x9 Medium-format Film Camera from the Soviet Union for several months now, and it quickly became one of my favorite film cameras. It produces beautiful medium-format negatives on 120 film in a really interesting 6x9 format — perfect for anything from landscapes to portraits or even street photography.
When I decided I wanted a Moskva-5 and chose to purchase from sellers in the Ukraine and Russia, I followed advice from a friend and purchased two just in case one of them wasn’t working. Safe bet when purchasing a 60+ year-old camera from overseas and having to wait more than a month for delivery.
To my delight, both of the cameras I received worked great, so I’m selling this one.
The camera is in excellent working condition. The glass is clean and clear — no haze or fungus. The bellows are in good condition. The rangefinder works perfectly, so you can acheive very sharp focus. Shutter works correctly at all speeds, and even the self timer works.
The camera folds and opens easily. Body of the camera has typical wear. Leatherette is all intact. Typical paint wear on the black painted edges. Only defect of note is the scrape you can see on the top of the camera right under the name. It’s purely cosmetic though and does not impact the use of the camera at all.
As you can see from the included sample photos, this camera produces beautiful images. I’ve run several rolls of film through it now and the only problem I encountered was user error. I shot the first roll in bright Florida sunlight. Pictures all turned out fine, but I noticed some light had hit the edge of the film between shots and was clearly coming from the frame number windows on the back. Very minor and probably could have been avoided by only opening the window and advancing film in protected shade, but I decided to line the inside rear cover wtih camera light seal foam, just to keep things from bouncing around back there. All the rolls I shot after that were perfect.
So, here’s a rare opportunity to purchase a fully tested beautiful example of a Soviet-made medium format camera, and not have to wait weeks for it to arrive. My understanding is that these were favorites of professional photographers back in the day and they were a common sight at tourist destinations. I can totally see why. It’s a joy to use and the photos are beautiful.
Please look at the photos carefully. Camera comes with everything you see in the images. Leather case and strap are in good condition, as is the small hand strap on the right side of the camera.
