    Description

AS-313B / ARN 6 Direction Finder Loop Antenna
    One nice used military
    AS-313B / ARN-6  Direction Finder Loop Assembly
as manufactured for the US military effort in the 1950s by
    The George W. Borg Corporation.
Interesting in that this one was
    manufactured for USAF
    under contract no.
    A.F. 33(600)-16330
    and carries marking of
    AF/SN 1600-206 081 274
    and yet there's a tiny
    USN Norfolk OH
sticker on top of the antenna base where a cover would go.
I suspect this could have been from a scrapped
    Lockheed T-33
    "Shooting Star"
trainer that was scrapped at Litchfield Park NAF AZ in the early 1960s.Would have been correct for F-84, F-86, FJ Fury, F-94.... and so on and so forth.
The ARN-6 was a pretty common DF unit for both USN and USAF from late 1970s and was used well into the 1970s by the Navy. Carried on just about every fighter and transport of that era, it's a big old heavy piece of DF antenna equipment. This one has a big old heavy glass cover over the loop. Big and clunky, but also fragile. About 13 pounds of gear.
Looks as if this one was carved right out of a stricken airframe - not the aluminum mount plate with the shock mounts. One of the corners of the aluminum mount plate has been carved right off of the component... looks as if it'd been cut with hand shears, twisted and pulled until it broke free.  Doesn't look like this one languished in a cockpit forever... the resin cover on the antenna loop looks fresh and new, although it's clearly 50-60 years old at this point.
Appears complete; a little dusty and dirty from storage but undamaged. Although NOT included this auction, it was powered by two Cannon electrical connector... a three pin and a six pin unit. If you absolutely needed them for a functional component please ask at auction close and we'll hunt for suitable units and arrive at a price for said.
Unit is NOT function tested by us but looks complete and was warehouse stored for decades. Some chipped paint but aside of the aircraft specific mount bracket in chromate green that was cut, no abuse to this unit.
What you see in the photo series is exactly what you get.  Ships cheapest FedEx Ground unless you request otherwise. We'll double-box this unit so it arrives 100 percent intact. Questions? Please ask seller. And thanks for looking!
