Vintage silverplate slipcover for a large box of matches. 4 3/4" by 2 5/8" by 2", this was meant for a box of kitchen matches and has an open strip on one side for the striker on the box. One side is stamped with a rampant lion. The hallmark of the manufacturer is "P&S" inside of an oval with "E" and "P" for electroplated. The box cover has some surface marks and scratches. There is a small spot where the plating is worn and the copper beneath is exposed. From a local estate, this would be an elegant disguise for the matches you might keep on your fireplace mantel.
