Buescher Aristocrat Alto Saxophone || Great Player, Super Cool.
This is an overhauled Buescher Aristocrat alto, # 290xxx. This horn plays really well and is very unique as you can see from the photos.
The individual from whom I bought the horn overhauled it with standard/pro tan leather pads using original snaps, swedged the keys, and removed a series of small dents in the bottom bow (see pictures). The horn was also stripped of its lacquer and I believe was hand buffed, giving the bare brass a cool texture to it not unlike some of the modern finishes you see on popular brands. There is a clear coat of sealant or protective lacquer applied over the body of the horn which prevents the brass from aging or darkening in color over time. So what you see here will stay that way (unless you choose to modify it of course). The same process was done to the keywork, however I do not see that the clear coat was applied on the key work but I could be mistaken.
The engraving still shows through quite well despite the finish work which was done (I do not think anything was re-cut). The body is straight and the neck does not show any signs of having been pulled down in the past.
The important part is that the horn plays very well. I bought this as a backup horn to my silver aristocrat and this one plays very similarly, perhaps with a bit more projection (my silver horn is an earlier model with a more mellow neck). Intonation and evenness of tone color is very good, consistent with any other Aristocrat I’ve played. The pads all seal up nicely, and there is no keywork or pad noise worth mentioning.
Includes a Hiscox “LiteFlite II Pro” case which has hardly been used, no weird odors, with the original tag and case keys and shoulder strap.
