Description
For your consideration . . . a veryvery old tankard marked Worthington & Co. Ltd. (aka Worthington Brewery, UK)
with logo. Used vintage condition - see photos.
Worthington is the second oldest continuously brewed British beer - it was founded in 1761.
So how old is it? I don't know. But it's so old that it is embossed on the bottom (see photo):
"
RENOVATED BY ARISPLATIN 10/24
" so i
t appears that a former owner had the tankard "renovated" in October 1924.
Research of vintage advertising revealed that
Arisplatin was the name utilized by The Harris Plating Works, Ltd. for receipt of telegrams.
Worthington & Co. Ltd. name and logo embossed on tankard side. See photo.
The maker's mark and numbering also appears on the inside of the base edge (see photo)
Capacity: 10 oz. to the very top lip. More practically to be used for 1/2 pint (8 oz.).
Weight: Approximately 9-1/2 oz.
Height: Approximately 4-1/2"
Base Diameter: Approximately 3-3/4"
I have not cleaned, polished or prepared this item in any way.
It appears that the tarnish is wiped clean where one might rest a thumb while holding the tankard by its handle.
See photos for details and condition.
