    Description

    Here we have an
Antique GOODELL-PRATT No. 5 "Eggbeater" Hand Drill with Handle Magazine for Bits.
Goodell-Pratt was a tool manufacturing company based in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
The company was founded in 1888 as the Goodell Brothers Company by Albert and Henry E. Goodell, and was located in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. Goodell-Pratt was created by William Pratt after he purchased the Goodell Brothers Company. I
n 1931 Goodell-Pratt was merged into the Millers Falls Company at their Greenfield location.  Drill is maker identified on the crank handle and the chuck which includes Pat. AUG.13.1895.  The No. 5 model number has worn away.  Drill was identified using catalog references. This singe-speed hand drill has a very good smooth cranking action.  The finish on the iron frame and main gear shows wear. There are no crack in the two handles.  The side handle has gone missing over the years.  The large wood handle has a brass drill bit magazine with a revolving lid that was designed to hold 8 fluted brill bits.  The edge is marked by the maker and also has the bit size numbers. The chuck will accept bits up to 1/4".  Drill is approx. 12" long.  No cracks, breaks or repairs.
