Description

Description:
This is an example of an early
Calvin Adams 1840 patented coffee mill, made in Pittsburgh, PA. They were all alike: 6 1/2 inch square box with beveled edges on the top and base, 4 3/8 inches tall without the hopper, a 5 1/2 inch wide drawer and a 5 1/4 inch diameter Britannia (pewter) hopper. The drawers were either stamped Pittsburgh Novelty Works or Patented 1840.
Overall, as seen in the pictures, the grinder is in average condition, but appears to be all original, and still works.
The stamped “Patented 1840” has been worn off with use, but the stamp outline and some faint lettering is still visible on the drawer front.
A well-used, but decent example of a 175 year old coffee mill.
Note:
the felt pads on the bottom can be removed if desired.
